All study in my studio is grounded in individualized private instruction. Private lessons provide the continuity, specificity, and attunement necessary for deep technical development and long-term musical growth.
This structure ensures that all progress remains individualized, integrated, and responsive to each student’s development.
My programs are designed to extend and enrich individual study, offering additional structure, community, and guided focus. Enrollment in any program requires concurrent private lessons to ensure that all work is integrated, pedagogically sound, and responsive to the individual student.
Students in my studio range in age and experience, including committed young players, adult musicians, and teachers. What unites them is a shared willingness to work carefully, practice consistently, and engage deeply with the learning process.
(Required for All Students and Programs)
Individual lessons form the foundation of all work in my studio.
Instruction is carefully paced and tailored to the individual, with close attention to movement, sound production, and coordination. Lessons emphasize building technique that is reliable, expressive, and physically sustainable, rather than pursuing short-term results.
Individual lessons are appropriate for:
Lesson work may include:
Lessons are offered in person (required for beginners) in Great Falls, Virginia, and online for advanced students, adult musicians, and teachers.
The VIP Violin / Viola Program is an immersive program for students who want to engage in deeper, more sustained technical and artistic work within a supportive learning community.
Participation in the VIP Program includes and requires participation in individual lessons.
The program serves:
The VIP Program includes:
Instruction draws from the full scope of my pedagogical experience, including biomechanics, embodied learning, sound production, technical sequencing, repertoire-based problem solving, and performance psychology. While elements of Paul Rolland pedagogy may be incorporated where appropriate, the VIP Program reflects an integrated, individualized approach, not a single-method system.
“The work reinforced a solid technical foundation at every step. I gained much greater awareness of how my whole bow arm functions, and my sound and posture improved as a result.”
— Andrew Schwartz Crane, violist
Enrollment is limited and based on readiness and mutual fit.
Back to Basics: Bow Workshop is a structured, intensive program designed to support students enrolled in individual lessons who wish to rebuild or significantly refine bow technique and sound production.
Participation includes and requires participation in individual lessons.
The Bow Workshop includes:
This program is especially well suited for students who:
Placement is based on readiness and timing within a student’s overall technical development.
“The pedagogy is structured with extraordinary clarity. Focusing so carefully on the bow changed the sound I’m able to produce in a lasting way.”
— Derek Burrows, professional musician
All new students begin with a short inquiry and, if appropriate, a trial lesson.
Trial lessons are not auditions. They are an opportunity for both student and teacher to explore learning style, readiness for this type of work, and overall fit. Placement is based on attentiveness, willingness to engage with detail, and capacity for consistent practice—not on repertoire level or prior accomplishments.
If you are interested in studying in my studio, please begin with a short inquiry form. If it appears we may be a good match, you will be invited to complete a full application.
